At some of the given sunset times in the current Colombo prayer timetable, the sun remains above the horizon.

Below is a recently well documented example from Colombo (Kollupitiya) captured by astrophotography enthusiast M. S. M. Macksood, on 9th October 2023 at 5:58:13 PM; on which date the Maghreb prayer time according to the current timetable was 5:58 PM. 

As Ramadān is around the corner, and the time of Maghreb is important to the fasting person. It's concerning to see that the sun remains above the horizon at the given Maghreb time. 

This is due to lack of consideration regarding several factors such as refraction, effect of dip of the horizon, and the observer's elevation. 

There is no clarity or published document regarding the calculation method used to obtain the current prayer time table, due to which it is challenging to analyze where the problem lies.

Apart from the issue of sunset, there are many other unresolved issues such as twilight angle for Fajr and Esha, and calculation methods for solar coordinates and equation of time, I sincerely wish that this proposed timetable will be the initiative step towards a successful prayer timetable based upon modern astronomical standards and accurate methods.

தற்போதைய கொழும்பு தொழுகை நேர அட்டவணையில் கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ள சில மஃரிப் நேரங்களைப் பொறுத்தவரை, சூரியன் அடிவானத்திற்கு மேலே உள்ளது.

மேலே கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ள ஒரு சமீபத்திய ஆவணப்படுத்தப்பட்ட உதாரணம் கொழும்பிலிருந்து வானியல் புகைப்பட ஆர்வலர் M. S. M. Macksood என்பவரால் அக்டோபர் 9, 2023 அன்று மாலை 5:58:13 மணிக்குப் படம்பிடிக்கப்பட்டது; அந்த நாளில் கொழும்பு தொழுகை நேர அட்டவணையின்படி மஃரிப்  தொழுகை நேரம் மாலை 5:58.

ரமலான் நெருங்கி வருவதாலும், நோன்பாளிக்கு மஃரிப் நேரம் முக்கியமானது என்பதாலும். கொடுக்கப்பட்ட மஃரிப் நேரத்தில் சூரியன் அடிவானத்திற்கு மேலே இருப்பதைப் பார்ப்பது கவலைக்குரியது. (உதாரணத்திற்கு மார்ச் 1 முதல் 9 வரை)

தொழுகை நேரங்களைக் கணக்கிடும்போது ஒளிவிலகல், அடிவானத்தின் சாய்வின் விளைவு மற்றும் பார்வையாளரின் உயரம் போன்ற பல காரணிகளைப் பற்றி கருத்தில் கொள்ளாததே இதற்குக் காரணம்.

தற்போதைய தொழுகை  நேர அட்டவணையைப் பெறுவதற்குப் பயன்படுத்தப்படும் கணக்கீட்டு முறை குறித்து தெளிவு அல்லது வெளியிடப்பட்ட ஆவணம் இல்லை, இதன் காரணமாக சிக்கல் எங்கே உள்ளது என்பதை பகுப்பாய்வு செய்வது சவாலானது.

சூரிய அஸ்தமனம் பற்றிய பிரச்சினையைத் தவிர,ஃபஜ்ர் மற்றும் ஈஷாவிற்கான கோணம், solar coordinates கணக்கீட்டு முறைகள் மற்றும் equation of time போன்ற பல தீர்க்கப்படாத பிரச்சினைகள் உள்ளன.
